New Delhi, July 21
The Ministry of Externa Affairs, on Sunday said, almost 4,500 Indian students had returned to India from Bangladesh so far. Before the deadly anti-quota protests started in the neighbouring country, some 15,000 Indian nationals, including 8,000 Indian students, were in Bangladesh.
The MEA said the High Commission at Dhaka had been making arrangements for security escort to ensure safe travel of Indian nationals to the border-crossing points between India and Bangladesh.
Among those who were facilitated to return were 500 students of Nepal, 38 of Bhutan and 1 of Maldives. They also arrived in India. The High Commission of India in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna continued to be in regular touch with local authorities for the safety and security of Indian nationals.
Officials were also in regular contact with the remaining students in various universities in Bangladesh.
