Talks between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress over seat sharing in Delhi for the Lok Sabha elections are said to be in final stages and the two sides are likely to announce their tie-up soon.
“The announcement regarding sharing of seats is expected to be made soon,” a Congress leader said.
Confirming the development, Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely said, “The Congress and AAP are part of the INDIA bloc and the final decision (regarding seat sharing) will be announced soon.”
It is learnt that four of Delhi’s seven seats will be fought by AAP while the Congress will contest the remaining three seats. AAP will field candidates from the South Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi and New Delhi seats, while the Congress will contest the Chandni Chowk, East Delhi and North East Delhi constituencies.
At present, all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi are with the BJP. AAP and the Congress are also working on fighting jointly in Gujarat, Haryana, Goa and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. AAP is expected to concede the Chandigarh seat to the Congress. While AAP will play second fiddle to the Congress in Haryana and Gujarat, the two parties will contest one seat each in Goa.
There is going to be no understanding between the two parties in Punjab.
