President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday said affirmative action must be strengthened as instrument of inclusion.

President Murmu was addressing the nation on the Independence Day eve.

She said, “I firmly believe tendencies that stoke discord based upon perceived social hierarchies have to be rejected.”

Social justice is the top priority of the Modi government, she said, adding that the Modi government has taken a number of unprecedented initiatives for the welfare of SC, ST and marginalised sections.

Murmu said steady progress of political democracy testifies to the progress made towards consolidation of social democracy.
