American defence company, GE Aerospace, on Wednesday said that it delivered the first of 99 F-404 aircraft engines to the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Tejas light combat jet programme.
State-run HAL is procuring the engines to power the Tejas Mk-1A variant of the Tejas jets.
The HAL was scheduled to commence deliveries in March last year, with 12-14 jets planned for this fiscal, ending March 31, 2025. However, the supply of engines is two years behind the schedule and not a single plane has been delivered so far.
