In a strategic move ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress on Thursday appointed Dr Anil Jaihind Kumar Yadav as the new chairman of its Other Backward Classes (OBC) department, replacing senior Haryana leader Captain Ajay Singh Yadav.
The change in leadership comes as the Congress intensifies efforts to regain support among the backward and Dalit communities in Bihar, traditionally seen as vote banks for JD(U) and RJD. Kumar, a social activist from Bihar, is expected to strengthen the party’s outreach among OBC voters. The 243-seat Assembly is set to go to poll later this year. Recently, the Congress also appointed Rajesh Kumar as its Bihar state president.
