At all-party meet, opposition backs govt on national response to Pahalgam attack

Closing ranks with the government after the Kashmir terror attack, the opposition fully backed it on the national response to the act even as the government briefed leaders on the lapses and the ways to prevent recurrence.

After the all-party meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said the opposition fully supports the government on the national response to the attack.

Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge also said the leaders asked for measures to restore peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

Briefing on the government's behalf after the meeting, parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju said the opposition is with the government and against terror.

"All parties said they are with the government and against terror. Leaders were briefed by Intelligence Bureau and Ministry of Home Affairs officials on the lapses and the steps being taken to prevent recurrence," Rijiju said amid evidence of intelligence failure in Pahalgam.

Rijiju said the government has assured leaders of action against terror.
