Australian Deputy PM's 4-day visit begins today
Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Richard Marles, will travel to India as part of his multi-nation tour to Asia. The Australian Defence Ministry said Marles would start his four-day visit to Asia on June 2, Monday.
The Deputy Prime Minister would meet leaders and counterparts in India, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia as part of the government’s commitment to deepening diplomatic and defence partnerships in the Indo-Pacific, the ministry added.
The visit to India coincides with the fifth anniversary of Australia and India’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which underpins our relationship and shared vision for the Indian Ocean, the Australian statement said.
During his visit to the Maldives and Sri Lanka, the Deputy Prime Minister will discuss ongoing Australian support for both nations’ sovereign capability development.
