‘Behen hai meri: Bihar cops 'misbehave' with siblings eating at restaurant, face probe over alleged misconduct
CCTV footage from the restaurant shows the Station House Officer (SHO) approaching the duo seated at a table
A video showing a Bihar police officer allegedly misbehaving with a man and a woman—who told him they were siblings—has gone viral, sparking widespread outrage on social media.
The incident took place on the night of October 24 at BR-11 Restaurant in Barsoi, under Katihar district.
CCTV footage from the restaurant shows the Station House Officer (SHO) approaching the duo seated at a table.

The officer is heard asking the man, “Kaun hai ye?” (Who is this sitting with you?), to which he calmly replies, “Behen hai meri.” (She is my sister).
Instead of concluding the interaction, the SHO got angry and accused the man of “talking back,” warning him to “watch his tone”.
The man responded politely, saying, “Aapne poocha toh maine bola behen hai.” (You asked, so I told you she is my sister). The situation soon escalated into a heated exchange, as another officer joined in, apparently siding with the SHO.
The woman accompanying the man was later seen recording the incident on her phone.
The man later shared the footage online with the caption: “This incident occurred last night when we went for a family dinner in Barsoi, Bihar, which falls under Katihar district. So we can’t even take our sister for dinner during election time in Bihar?”
He tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Katihar Police in the post. The video quickly spread across social media, prompting the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Katihar, to launch an inquiry.
In an official statement, Katihar Police clarified that routine checks were being conducted across hotels and lodges due to the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

Around 8 pm on October 24, the Barsoi police reportedly received information that some “anti-social elements” were present at the restaurant. To verify this, the SHO, accompanied by ASI Ranjan Kumar Yadav and a female constable, reached the spot around 8:10 pm and began questioning diners about their identities.
According to the police statement, the man and woman “did not provide satisfactory answers” and allegedly used “inappropriate language,” which led to the confrontation. The SHO then informed the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Barsoi, about the matter.
A show-cause notice has been issued to the SHO and probe is on.
