Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday urged newly elected lawmakers to conduct themselves with dignity and maintain decency and decorum in the House as their actions are observed not just within the country, but also globally.

Addressing a keynote address at the valedictory function of the two-day long orientation programme of newly elected members of Parliament, Birla said for a healthy and strong democracy, there was a need to foster an environment of dialogue and cooperation.

It is the responsibility of the members to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people they represent. Therefore, they should use the forum of the House to discuss the issues of the people, he added.
