Former cricketer-turned-politician Yusuf Pathan, who is Trinamool Congress MP, found himself in line of fire on Sunday as BJP trolled him for his picture posted on social media amid the violence in West Bengal over the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

Pathan is the party's MP from Baharampur, which is of the three Lok Sabha constituencies of the Murshidabad district, where protests erupted against the amendment to the Act.

Pathan posted a picture of himself on a social media platform Instagram, captioned, “Easy afternoons, good chai, and calm surroundings. Just soaking in the moment.”

The saffron party hit out at the TMC MP while accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of encouraging "state-protected violence". "Bengal is burning. The HC has said it can't keep its eyes closed and deployed central forces. Banerjee is encouraging such state-protected violence as the police stays silent! Meanwhile Yusuf Pathan — MP sips tea and soaks in the moment as Hindus get slaughtered. This is TMC," BJP's national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla posted on X.

Three persons have been killed in the violence in Murshidabad after protests against the Waqf Act amendment turned violent as the situation in the state continues to remain tense.
