The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave itself the tag of the “Cabinet of the Millennium” thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the Ram Mandir which, it said, had become a never seen before mass public campaign.

In a resolution today, union ministers hailed PM Modi for the opening of the Ram Temple and said, “In 1947, the body of India was liberated; today the soul of the nation has been redeemed.”

Recalling the PM’s words on the inauguration that the Ram Mandir consecration was a marker of a changing era and an occasion to set India’s foundations for 1000 years to come, the Cabinet resolution said, “Today’s Cabinet meeting is historic…. Because the Ram Temple has been built for thousands of years, it would not be an exaggeration to call today’s Cabinet the Cabinet of the Millennium,” the resolution read.

Moved by defence minister Rajnath Singh, the resolution hailed Modi as “Jananayak and a transformational leader” and said, “Not from any political perspective but from a spiritual perspective we can say that you were chosen by Lord Ram for the consecration of His temple.”

The resolution, read out at the Cabinet press briefing by Union Minister Anurag Thakur, also noted the surge of people’s emotions around the temple with the first day seeing over five lakh devotees.

“Although people’s unity was witnessed during the Emergency also, that unity was an expression of mass angst against dictatorship. Ram Mandir movement on the other hand is an epoch-making movement,” the resolution said, adding that the Ram Temple would set a new narrative and was the first of its kind moment for even the Union Cabinet since the formation of the executive council in BritishViceroy times.
