CBI brings back three fugitives, including alleged rapist, from UAE to face Indian law
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully brought back three fugitive criminals from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to face Indian law for their alleged crimes.
The two accused, Suhail Basheer and Tofik Najir Khan, arrived in India on April 2, while the third accused, Aaditya Jain, was brought back on April 4.
A senior CBI officer shared details about the cases, stating that Basheer was wanted by the Kerala Police for allegedly raping a minor girl under the Protection of Child from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act. Basheer had been absconding since the case was registered, and the CBI had published a Red Notice through Interpol in December 2024 at the Kerala Police’s request.
The CBI, in coordination with Interpol, geo-located Basheer in the UAE. An escort team from the Kerala Police brought him back to Cochin International Airport.
In the second case, Tofik Najir Khan was wanted by the Gujarat Police for criminal conspiracy, forgery, and cheating. The International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) of the CBI coordinated with NCB-Abu Dhabi to bring Khan back from the UAE.
A Red Corner Notice was published through Interpol on February 25, following which Khan was tracked down in the UAE and brought back to India.
The third accused, Aaditya Jain, was wanted by the Rajasthan Police in multiple criminal cases, including making extortion calls to wealthy businessmen. Jain was brought back to India on April 4.
According to the CBI officer, over 100 wanted criminals have been returned to India in recent years through Interpol coordination.
