CBI brings back wanted fugitive from Saudi Arabia

Fugitive Manakandathil Thekkethi was wanted by the agency in a criminal conspiracy and cheating case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday successfully coordinated return of fugitive Manakandathil Thekkethi, aka Sheela Allyani, from Saudi Arabia, who was wanted by the agency in a criminal conspiracy and cheating case.

The CBI had earlier got the Red Notice published against Allyani through Interpol on October 5, 2023.

A team of CBI officials visited Saudi Arabia and brought her back on Thursday.

The Red Notices published by Interpol are circulated to all law enforcement agencies globally for tracking the wanted fugitives.

The CBI is the national central bureau for Interpol in India. It coordinates with all law enforcement agencies in India through Bharatpol for assistance.

More than 130 wanted criminals have been returned to India in last few years through coordination via Interpol channels.
