New Delhi, March 6

The West Bengal Police on Wednesday handed over the custody of suspended Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh to the CBI following a fresh directive from the Calcutta High Court.

The development took place after the HC once again ordered the West Bengal administration to hand over the custody of Sheikh to the agency by 4.15 pm. A CBI team had arrived by that time to take his custody.

Sheikh was finally handed over to the CBI custody around 6.45 pm, sources said.

Besides, the CBI will also take over the case of the attack on ED officials that took place at Sandeshkhali on January 5. The ED officials had gone to Sheikh’s house for a raid in connection with the ration “scam”.
