CDS unveils joint doctrine for amphibious operations

This is the second joint doctrine released this year, following the one on cyberspace operations issued in June.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the new doctrine will guide commanders in conducting amphibious operations in today’s complex military environment.
The capability to conduct amphibious operations enables the Armed Forces to undertake a wide range of missions in the Indian Ocean Region during both wartime and peacetime. These operations are a vital element of multi-domain operations and exemplify the cohesion and integration among the armed forces.
The doctrine emphasises jointness and integration of the armed forces, particularly in amphibious operations. India currently has a couple of amphibious brigades equipped with specialised ships capable of landing armed troops and tanks on shorelines without requiring docking facilities.
It provides a focus on understanding the intricacies of amphibious operations, offering conceptual guidance on their execution. The development of joint doctrines is a crucial aspect of enhancing jointness and integration, an initiative actively pursued by the Indian Armed Forces.
