In his monthly radio broadcast ‘Mann ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged citizens to support Indian players at the Paris Olympics.
“At this moment, the Olympics are the flavour of the season in the whole world. The Olympics give our players a chance to hoist the Tricolour on the world stage. Let us encourage our players… Cheer for Bharat,” Modi said.
“In this Olympiad, students of India have performed exceptionally well. Our team performed its best and won four gold and one silver medals. Our team was successful in reaching the top five among participants from a 100 countries,” the PM said.
Visit Moidams in Assam

Modi also informed that the turnover of khadi village industry had crossed Rs 1.5 lakh crore for the first time. He said the sales of khadi products had increased by 40 per cent. “This rising sale of khadi is creating a large number of new employment opportunities. The women are the ones who are benefiting the most,” he said.
Modi announced the launch of a portal, Manas, to curb drug menace. “This is a very big step in the fight against drug abuse. A helpline and portal of ‘Manas’ has been launched. The government has issued a toll-free number, 1933. Anyone can call on this number to get necessary advice or information related to rehabilitation,” he said.
Celebrating the inclusion of Assam’s Moidams, the burial mounds of Ahom royalty, in the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site list, Modi urged people to include the site in their travel lists.
“Charaideo Moidams becoming a World Heritage Site now will mean that more tourists will visit the place. You must include this site in your future travel plans,” he said.
He also spoke about a group of women in Rohtak whose handloom products were in demand in the market. “More than 250 women associated with the handloom industry joined the UNNATI Self Help Group and received training in block printing and dyeing. These women who spread the magic of colours on clothes are earning lakhs of rupees today,” Modi added.
He also cited similar examples of artisans in Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
On the eve of Global Tigers Day, Modi gave the example of the Rajasthan’s Kulhadi Band Panchayat campaign, under which communities took an oath to not cut trees in Ranthambore, with the aim of creating a safe habitat for tigers. “Due to this decision, the forests here are becoming green once again and a better environment is being created for the tigers,” he said. He added that the local communities around Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve of Maharashtra had also taken rapid strides towards eco-tourism.
“You will also be surprised at the efforts of the ‘Chenchu’ tribe living on the Nallamalai hills in Andhra Pradesh. As tiger trackers, they have gathered every bit of information on the movement of wild animals in the forest. They also keep monitoring illegal activities in the area,” he said.
Modi also urged citizens to resume the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign in the run-up to the Independence Day on August 15. He also asked them to click and upload their selfies with the Tricolour on social media.
