College of Defence Management to get President’s Colours
The College of Defence Management (CDM), Secunderabad, which trains military officers on nuances of future warfare, is set to get the prestigious President’s Colours on December 20.
Presentation of Colours is the highest honour that recognises an armed forces institution’s contribution and service to the nation.
The CDM, which is under the Ministry of Defence, is tasked with shaping the strategic leadership and higher defence management skills of senior military officers.
Established in 1970, the CDM was planned in the late 1960s, a period marked by complex national security challenges and rapid technological advancements in warfare.
Today, the CDM offers academic programmes, including the flagship Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC), the Senior Defence Management Course (SDMC) and specialised short-term courses on subjects ranging from resource management, organisational behaviour, big-data analytics, decision making, net assessment, negotiations etc.
The CDM has an evolving curriculum to meet the demands of the next generation of military leaders. The college is set to expand its partnerships with global defence institutions, and its faculty is actively engaged in research on new-age military strategies and technologies.
The institution has a Military Analytics Club (MAC) that hosts a nationwide ‘Datathon’ to expound the data-based decision making in military leadership.
It also has a China and Other Nation States Study forum that engages in strategic studies of neighbourhood and publishes annual compendiums. A Defence Export Promotion forum is being established to review policy, procedures and processes to boost defence exports.
The CDM has also embarked upon promoting study of ancient Indian knowledge system. The Forum of Indian Strategic Culture and Thoughts at CDM collaborates with IGNCA, Ministry of Culture, to propagate Indian strategic culture.
