The Congress on Thursday urged its grassroots workers to take the battle against the ideology of the RSS and the BJP to streets.

The party begin the first phase of its three-day District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents’ meet on Thursday at its Indira Gandhi Bhawan headquarters at 9-A Kotla Road here.

As many as 250 DCC presidents from 13 states and three Union Territories and several senior leaders of the party attended the Thursday meeting.

In his address to the DCC presidents, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said that the importance of today’s meeting was evident from the fact that the party had called all district presidents from across the country just before the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) session in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad.

“Our battle against the BJP and the RSS continues both inside and outside Parliament. We must take this fight to the streets. As district presidents, your role is crucial as you are not just our messengers, but the generals of the Congress, who lead the party from the front on the ground. Therefore, Rahul Gandhi and I recognised the need for direct communication with you,” Kharge said.

He further said that the Congress had been demanding a caste census to prove its point and restore social justice. He also accused the BJP-led Central Government and saffron party’s government in states of focusing on creating communal disharmony to divert public attention.

“These communal issues are deliberately manufactured in the media to benefit the BJP rather than the public,” he asserted.

Talking about foreign affairs, the Congress chief said that countries like the US were not only insulting Indian citizens, but embarrassing the country by imposing counter-tariffs.

Party sources revealed that party’s district presidents from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Goa, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and seven sisters including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura attended the meeting.

They further claimed that senior leader Rahul Gandhi, national general secretary KC Venugopal, party treasurer Ajay Maken, Congress leader from Kerala Deepa Das Munshi, general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala and Publicity Department chairman Pawan Khera were also present on the occasion.
