Congress charges BJP-EC 'collusion', says Anurag Thakur's data proves 'fraud' in 2024 polls
Upping it ante against the Modi government, the Congress on Thursday said BJP MP Anurag Thakur proved Rahul Gandhi’s claim that 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the country were being fought on the basis of ‘fake voter list’.
The Opposition party also made a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating he could only ascend to the highest chair through “booster dose of fake voters” from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat.
The Congress also called for nullification of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and said the government should make the announcement of dissolution of Parliament and announce the polls afresh.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Congress leader Pawan Khera said that while BJP MP Anurag Thakur’s target was Congress, his statements ended up exposing the Election Commission.
The Congress also demanded the electronic voter list of Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency in 2024 which was won by PM Modi, alleging that “his victory was secured through fake voters.”
He said that on counting day, PM Modi was trailing for half the day but later surged ahead, attributing this to irregularities.
Citing a case of voter Raj Kamal Das listed as the father of 45 people, Khera alleged, “For 1050 minutes, there was no clarity in counting, then suddenly Modi won by 1 lakh votes.”
Khera claimed Anurag Thakur’s revelations served as a “smoking gun” confirming Rahul Gandhi’s claims about fake voter lists.
“The figures presented by Anurag Thakur yesterday before the media are evidence of crime. We want him to give us this evidence of crime and all the figures, since now the crime has been proved. You have yourselves shown that the BJP is hand in glove with EC,” said Khera.
Khera noted that Thakur presented data from six Lok Sabha constituencies, including Raebareli, Amethi, Diamond Harbour, and Kurnool, to prove irregularities. “Thanks to Anurag Thakur for finally showing interest in fake voter lists. Until now, we were trolled and served notices for raising this,” he said.
He pointed out that while EC issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi during his August 7 press conference, no such action was taken against Thakur after his presser 24 hours earlier. He claimed, “This shows EC works for the ruling regime.”
Khera said it took Congress six months to highlight irregularities in the Mahadevapura Assembly segment of the Central Bangalore Lok Sabha constituency because the Election Commission did not provide the electronic voter list to the Opposition.
In contrast, Thakur obtained the figures for six Lok Sabha constituencies within just six days. “Our question to the EC and BJP is: How? If you have access to these figures and electronic voter lists, why are they not shared with Congress and the Opposition?” asked Khera.
