As the Central Government asserted that it’s ready to hold discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and “Operation Sindoor”, the Congress sought presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s in the House during the debate.
Ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament, MP and Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on X, “Very shortly the nattily dressed Prime Minister will give his usual Desh ke Naam Sandesh through the media outside Parliament before the commencement of the Monsoon session. This will be full of his usual platitudes and hypocrisy.”
Urging PM Modi to be present in Parliament when the discussion on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, including ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump takes place, he said, “Prime Minister Modi is very, very, very rarely present in Parliament. He speaks once a year on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address. But this time, he owes it to the country to be present when the issue of Pahalgam-Operation Sindoor-President Trump is finally taken up for discussion.”
Taking a jibe over PM Modi’s two nation tour from July 23 to the UK and Maldives amid Parliament session, he said, “48 hours later, the Super Premium Frequent Flyer will start yet another foreign visit. The people of Manipur will have more cause for disappointment.”
Later in the day, the government asserted in the Rajya Sabha that it is ready to hold discussions covering all aspects of Operation Sindoor, as the Opposition demanded immediate debate on the Pahalgam terror attack.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar also assured protesting Opposition MPs that he will ensure a full-fledged discussion on the issue for as much time as members want.
Earlier, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Rajya Sabha and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge gave adjournment notice to take up immediate discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack after setting aside all listed business.
Raising the issue, Kharge said US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that he mediated between India and Pakistan to bring about a ceasefire during Operation Sindoor was “humiliating” for the country.
Leader of the House and BJP chief JP Nadda said, “The government is ready to hold detailed discussion on the issue and is not running away from any debate.”
