Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called on the Central Government to declare the recent landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad a ‘national disaster’.
Speaking during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi, who is Leader of the Opposition, sought a package for tragedy-hit Wayanad to build a disaster resistance infrastructure.
Rahul said: “I visited Wayanad with my sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra recently. I saw with my own eyes the devastation, pain and suffering. A 2-km area of the hill had collapsed. Over 200 people had died and many are missing. The death toll may exceed 400”.
Rahul commended the work of the Centre and the state government along with the personnel of the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, IAF and Central agencies and assistance from Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
