Diplomacy not about neutrality, India confident and on path of recovery: Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar emphasised on Friday that diplomacy is not about neutrality.
He asserted that neutral positions are taken only when a country is weak or underconfident. During his interaction with the Indian community in Dublin, Ireland, he said, "Diplomacy is not about neutrality. That happens either when you're too weak or underconfident, or it can happen when, frankly, you don't care."
The minister stated that in today's time, India has the confidence to do what's best for its interests and also what's best for the world. EAM Jaishankar also mentioned India's path towards "success," saying it is a country where things are happening.
"We want the world to know this," he said.
The minister said India is on the path of recovery after two centuries of colonialism.
"We're a country on the path of recovery after two centuries of colonialism, how can we not have problems?" he said. Jaishankar also praised Ireland's growth, the country where he served as India's diplomat.
"What Ireland has done is definitely noteworthy. From research to development and the economy, they've positioned themselves in a way that must be viewed seriously," he said. Jaishankar also discussed the current mood in India, describing it as one of confidence.
"The mood in India is a very confident mood," he said. The minister also elaborated on India's rich history and its journey towards becoming a 'Viksit Bharat' (developed India).
"The journey of a Viksit Bharat is that of a 5000-year-old civilisation; few such civilisations are left today," he said.
