Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reminded the voters of Bihar of the “dark days of law and order in the state” and said the state could not again risk electing a government that fanned Naxalism.

In a dig at the erstwhile rule of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in the state, the Prime Minister, in his first interaction with booth workers in virtual mode today, said the youth of Bihar needed to be acclimatised with the “jungle raj” that once prevailed in the state.

His reference was to the RJD chief Lalu Yadav-led government in the state between 1990 and 2005.

“Those were the days when people could not venture out of homes. Today Bihar is free of the reign of goons. But the state has seen times when its vast swathes were Naxalism-affected and Naxals would destroy rail track, loot coal and cement at will and people were afraid to go out after sunset,” Modi said to booth workers of the BJP asking them to draw people’s attention to an exhibition capturing the “atrocities of RJD rule.”

The Bihar BJP has curated an exhibition on Lalu’s rule in Bihar and is displaying it across states.

Speaking to state booth-level leaders, the Prime Minister recalled how government officials in the state would need police escort for travel during the rule of erstwhile governments.

“There was an atmosphere of terror, no one could earn their living peacefully, development works were paralysed. But today the situation of Bihar has changed. We are on the verge of rooting out Naxalism. This is a very momentous occasion and the people cannot take the risk to re-elect those who will again fan Naxalism,” the Prime Minister said in swipes at RJD rule, though he did not name Lalu Prasad’s party.

The Prime Minister also gave the poll slogan—“Ekjut NDA, Ekjut Bihar, Phir se Banegi Sushasan ki Sarkar” and said that the state would mark its third Diwali on November 14 “when the NDA will emerge victorious in Assembly elections in Bihar.”

He cited GST reduction at the start of Navratri and Diwali on October 20 as the first two festivals.

Giving a message of unity in NDA ranks, the Prime Minister asked BJP booth workers to ensure the victory of alliance candidates where the BJP did not have its nominee.

“We have to display our organisational strength to ensure NDA’s victory everywhere,” Modi said.

In other important remarks, the Prime Minister asked BJP workers to draw up a list of beneficiaries of government schemes saying, “These beneficiaries are also your campaigners. Make a list of beneficiaries, visit them to ask how much financial benefit they are receiving from various government schemes and then give them a perspective on how much the government is doing for them. These beneficiaries are also your campaigners,” the Prime Minister said.

He also hailed as a landmark the new scheme under which the NDA Government of the state has disbursed Rs 10,000 cash to the accounts of 1.20 crore Bihar women to help them set up business.

“We will give women more money once they use the seed amount to establish an enterprise,” the Prime Minister said.
