New Delhi, January 16

The BJP on Tuesday held a strategy meet to discuss plans for the coming Lok Sabha elections with Union Home Minister Amit Shah asking leaders to engage influencers and leading personalities from varied walks of life to assess whether they wish to join the national mainstream through the BJP.

The party also decided to launch a “Gaon Chalo” campaign on the eve of the General Election. BJP chief JP Nadda asked leaders to reach out to first-time voters and mentioned that PM Narendra Modi would address new voters on January 25, National Voters’ Day. Nadda also asked leaders to spread the message of the Modi-led government’s all-inclusive development across all 543 Lok Sabha segments.

Self-reliance, resurgent India, cultural awakening and development came up for discussion as key campaign points. Nadda also asked the leaders to ensure that the party did well in 160 segments where it scored low last time. Shah attended the meeting a day after he lost his sister who was being treated for an ailment in Mumbai.
