Finance, Home ministries to shift to Central Vista Complex in May
The Finance and Home Affairs ministries will be the first to shift from the North Block to the newly developed Central Vista Complex in the national capital. Top government sources today said the ministries would shift to the Common Central Secretariat building of the Central Vista project by May.
The South Block ministries — External Affairs, Defence — will shift by July and all other departments gradually.
The Central Vista currently accommodates various ministries, departments, attached and subordinate offices of the Central Government. The total number of central employees working in these buildings are estimated to be around 54,000.
The Common Central Secretariat (CCS) will comprise 10 office buildings and a central conference centre. All 51 ministries are proposed at one location to improve coordination, collaboration and synergy. The transition from old to new space will start in May.
The new buildings are coming up through redevelopment of existing Central Secretariat Offices like Udyog Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan, Shastri Bhawan, IGNCA, National Museum, Vice-President’s residence etc. located on the either side of Rajpath.
Last to shift will be the PMO and PM Narendra Modi himself when he vacates 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, for his new Central Vista residence. The PMO and residence shift could take one and a half years, said official sources.
