Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra on Monday called on Bhutan’s new Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay in Thimpu and discussed areas of mutual interest and multifaceted cooperation to further boost India’s relations with the Himalayan nation.

On a three-day visit to Bhutan, Kwatra will be signaling India’s interest in King Jigme Khesar Wangchuck’s ambitious break-out project — the Gelephu Special Administrative Region Project — which is aimed as an economic bridge between South Asia and Southeast Asia, involving Assam, West Bengal in India, and extending to Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Singapore.
