Foreign Secy wraps up Mauritius visit, reviews India-backed projects
India has assured Mauritius of a continued commitment to the development, progress and prosperity of the island nation. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who was on a three-day visit to Mauritius gave the assurance to Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
A statement on the meeting by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “The Foreign Secretary has sought guidance to further strengthen the special and close partnership between the two countries. He conveyed India’s continued commitment to the development, progress and prosperity of Mauritius.”
Misri also had an opportunity to witness ongoing projects being developed by India in Mauritius, including a college and a health centre in Cap Malheureux.
The MEA said the visit was part of continued high-level engagements and reflected the importance India attached to its relations with Mauritius.
The visit reaffirmed the continued commitment from both sides to deepen the multi-dimensional bilateral partnership for the prosperity and development of both countries and the larger Indian Ocean. Misri’s visit has come just after PM Narendra Modi made a congratulatory call to Ramgoolam on November 11, immediately after his electoral victory in the parliamentary elections in Mauritius.
The Foreign Secretary also called on President Dharambeer Gokhool, Deputy Prime Minister Paul Berenger and Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ramful.
