Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday chaired a consultation workshop in the Capital, outlining a renewed push for world-class and sustainable transport infrastructure aimed at tackling congestion in fast-expanding urban areas.Minister of State Ajay Tamta, Harsh Malhotra, senior state officials and municipal commissioners also attended the meeting. They discussed various measures -- including the construction of ring roads and bypasses -- to divert traffic from city centres and decongest national highways running through urban zones.

Officials also deliberated on financing models such as value capture to ensure steady funding for large projects, and stressed the importance of aligning highway construction with city master plans for smoother integration.

They said that these measures would not only ease mobility, but also encourage planned and regulated growth in the areas surrounding new corridors.
