Which global leaders wished PM Modi on his 75th birthday?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 75 on Wednesday, with world leaders and dignitaries sending warm wishes and lauding his leadership.
Here is a list of key greetings:
1) US President Donald Trump
Among the first to reach out was US President Donald Trump, who called Modi on the eve of his birthday. Trump praised Modi for doing “a tremendous job” and thanked him for supporting efforts related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Modi, in response, called Trump “my friend” and reaffirmed his commitment to deepening India-US ties.
2) Russian President Vladimir Putin
Putin lauded Modi’s “personal contribution” to strengthening the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia. “Russia will continue constructive dialogue and work on current issues on the bilateral and international agenda,” he said.
3) Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
“Prime Minister Modi, my good friend Narendra, I want to wish you a Happy Birthday. You have accomplished so much for India in your life, and together we have strengthened the friendship between India and Israel. I look forward to seeing you soon so we can take our partnership to even greater heights. Happy Birthday, my friend,” Netanyahu said in a video message.
4) Italy Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni
Meloni hailed Modi’s “strength, determination, and ability to lead millions,” calling them an inspiration. “With friendship and esteem, I wish him health and energy to continue leading India toward a bright future and to further strengthen relations between our nations,” she said.
5) Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese
In a video message shared on X, Albanese called Modi a “friend” and praised the strong India-Australia relationship. “Australia is proud to share such a strong friendship with India and we’re grateful every day for the incredible contribution of the Indian community here. Happy Birthday, Prime Minister Modi. I look forward to catching up with you soon, and to many more years of friendship and progress,” he said.
6) New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon
Luxon extended greetings with “Kia ora, namaskar,” calling Modi “my good friend.” He said, “Congratulations on your 75th birthday from me and all your friends across New Zealand. A milestone like this is a moment to reflect on the wisdom of your leadership as you guide India toward becoming a developed country by 2047.”
7) Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay
“Warm birthday wishes to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Wishing you good health and long life. Grateful for your leadership and the special friendship between Bhutan and India,” Tobgay wrote.
8) Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing
The Myanmar leader praised India’s growing global stature under Modi’s “visionary leadership” and wished him “good health, long life, and continued success in shaping India’s bright future.”
9) Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides
“Dear Prime Minister, dear Narendra, on the occasion of your 75th birthday, it is my honour to extend heartfelt wishes on behalf of the government and people of Cyprus for your continued health, happiness, and success. Your visionary leadership has strengthened the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our two nations,” Christodoulides said.
10) Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka
Sri Lanka’s President conveyed warm greetings, praising Modi’s role in elevating India’s international stature, strengthening bilateral ties, and supporting Sri Lanka during difficult times. He wished Modi “health, strength, and success” in his service to the people of India and in shaping “a shared future of peace and prosperity.”
11) The Dalai Lama
The Tibetan spiritual leader wrote to Modi, offering “heartfelt greetings” and wishing him good health. “As India’s longest-staying guest, I have witnessed firsthand the far-reaching development and prosperity that have taken place. India’s success also contributes to global development,” he wrote. He praised India’s religious pluralism and harmony, saying it sets an example for the world. “For us Tibetans, India has not only been the source of our spiritual heritage but also our physical home for more than 66 years. I once again extend our deep gratitude to the Government and people of India for their warm and generous hospitality,” he added.
