Govt showcases clean energy, digital prowess to EU delegation

India showcased its growing prowess in clean energy sector as the European Commission delegation led by its President Ursula von der Leyen had a first-hand experience of green hydrogen bus ride in India’s capital city today. Along with President Leyen, 22 College of Commissioners enjoyed the ride meant to show India’s growing prowess in green and renewable technologies.

The delegation travelled to Hyderabad House here on a bus powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology, which has been developed and operated in collaboration with Tata Motors and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

The “clean energy” area has been of interest to both the sides. Earlier today, EU President Leyen also experienced the digital payment transaction UPI. MEA Secretary Tanmaya Lal during a special briefing on EU visit said, “These two areas, of course, digital transformation and green energy transition, are areas where India is developing capabilities very quickly. And also, these are some of the key areas where India and EU are collaborating very closely.”

Replying to a question from The Tribune, MEA Secretary Lal said, “The idea behind the hydrogen bus ride was to show the extent of work that is ongoing in terms of renewable energy and green technologies.” He said green transition is very much part of India’s priorities. On Friday, India and EU announced to expand cooperation under in several areas, including clean energy and climate.
