Goyal proposes Bharat Pavilion at major fairs

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has proposed the establishment of a ‘Bharat Pavilion’ at major international and domestic fairs to collectively showcase the plantation boards’ products.

He conducted a comprehensive review of plantation boards, including the Spices Board, Tea Board and Turmeric Board, the Ministry said on Friday.

Goyal also emphasised on boosting exports and ensuring the welfare of growers and workers. He further stressed the importance of expanding export opportunities through market diversification, promoting value-added products and maintaining stringent quality standards.

Goyal directed these boards to incorporate ‘India’ into the logos of their Geographical Indication (GI) products to enhance brand recognition. He added that these boards should also leverage benefits available under India’s free trade agreements to enhance global competitiveness.

To strengthen the global presence of Indian products, the minister advocated for collaboration between plantation boards and the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF).

Goyal also requested these boards to effectively implement existing welfare schemes for the welfare of growers, workers and their families. He stressed the importance of skill development programmes and directed the boards to coordinate with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to facilitate training.

In a push for innovation, the minister encouraged the boards to explore the creation of a common incubation centre, foster research, innovation and support for start-ups in the plantation sector.
