Have Indian DNA: Indonesian President
Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto, the chief guest for the 76th Republic Day celebrations, has said he has “Indian DNA.”
Subianto made the statement during a banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Sunday evening, attended by several dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Speaking at the event, Subianto said, “India and Indonesia have a long, ancient history together. We share civilisational links. Even today, a significant part of our language originates from Sanskrit. Many Indonesian names are actually Sanskrit names. The influence of ancient Indian civilisation remains strong in our daily lives.”
He added, “I think it is part of our genetics. I’d like to report to the President, the PM, the VP and distinguished friends that I had my genetic sequencing test done recently. My DNA test shows I have Indian DNA.”
He further quipped, “Everyone knows that when I hear Indian music, I start dancing, so it must be part of my makeup.”
India and Indonesia enjoy a robust bilateral relationship, with historical ties tracing back centuries. Notably, Indonesia’s first President, Sukarno, was the chief guest at India’s first Republic Day in 1950.
