New Delhi, January 31

Even as former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has been arrested in connection with the ED probe into an alleged land scam in the state, where reportedly fake deeds were made of land parcels by forging records in the registrar offices and further selling them off, the JMM leader may face further heat in another case related to illegal stone mining in the state’s Sahibganj district.

In the illegal mining case, according to the ED, joint inspections have assessed that 23.26 crore cubic feet of stones have been extracted from the Sahibganj district, which could be valued at around Rs 1,250 crore.

The agency said that the level of illegal stone mining had also led to the denudation of land and forest areas, which will lead to environmental hazards. Hemant has filed a writ petition in Jharkhand High court against ED summons. The case is expected to be taken up at 10.30 am tomorrow.
