The survey flagged challenges that stand in the way of medical education pursuit — high fee ranging from Rs 60 lakh to Rs 1 crore in private colleges; skewed location of medical colleges in India’s south, less remuneration for fresh medical graduates and lack of qualified and experienced faculty. However, the number of those aspiring to study MBBS increased from around 16 lakh in 2019 to around 24 lakh in 2024.
