Holiday to dry day: How are states marking Ram Mandir inauguration

New Delhi, January 18
While the Union government has declared a half day off until 2.30 pm on January 22 to enable employees to take part in the Ram Mandir inauguration celebrations, several states have declared holidays and dry days on Monday too.
The public holiday order covers government offices, all educational institutions (government and private) but not private sector offices.
Government offices and all educational institutions(including private)in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed in view of the Ram Temple ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony.
Additionally, liquor shops will be closed throughout the state on that day.
Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Chhattisgarh governments have also declared a public holiday for government offices and all educational institutions on Monday.
The educational institutes in these states both public and private, will remain closed.
Meanwhile, states like Uttarakhand, Assam and Rajasthan have declared a dry day when sale and consumption of alcohol is prohibited.
In Karnataka, the Associated Managements of Schools in Karnataka (KAMS) has asked private school authorities to live-stream the consecration ceremony event in schools.
Meanwhile, state BJP has urged Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah to declare a public holiday.
Senior BJP leaders have requested the governments Andhra Pradesh,Jharkhand and Odisha to declare holidays to mark the consecration ceremony.
“The ‘Pran Prathishtha’ is expected to conclude by 1 pm.
