IFS officer to head 23-nation Indian Ocean body
Indian diplomat Sanjiv Ranjan has been appointed as the next Secretary General of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), a body comprising 23 countries in the Indian Ocean.
Ranjan is an Indian Foreign Service officer of the 1993 batch and is presently an Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of External Affairs.
Established in 1997, the IORA is an international organisation aiming to promote economic cooperation, sustainable development and regional security among its members.
It works towards ensuring security in terms of trade and transportation in the Indian Ocean, combating piracy and enhancing maritime cooperation.
