NCR to get three new radars

The National Capital Region (NCR) is set to receive three new radars and 180 automated weather forecasting systems. In Mumbai, two radars have been installed and four more are in the pipeline. One radar will be installed in Kolkata as well. — Jitendra Singh, Union minister

The announcement was made by Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Tuesday after he convened a high-level review meeting. At present, Delhi has 17 automatic weather forecast centres. Singh has directed to install 50 more systems at the earliest and later up to 100 in the national capital.

“The National Capital Region (NCR) is set to receive three new radars and 180 automated weather forecasting systems. In Mumbai, two radars have been installed and four more are in the pipeline. One radar will be installed in Kolkata as well,” he said.

“Everything possible will be done to make the forecast system people -friendly to ensure convenience and ease of living for the citizens. Besides metro cities, the exercise will continue elsewhere too,” he added.

“The IMD will undertake a massive countrywide upgradation in weather and rain forecast system, including in the national capital, to raise it to the state-of-art world standards. This is aimed at ensuring precise weather and rain forecast to avoid inconvenience to common citizens, save man-days and reduce economic fallout. This would also help realise PM Sh @NarendraModi’s vision to empower farmers, fisherman & the common man,” Singh posted on X.
