The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) will be the key focus of a meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Greece’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritis, on Thursday. Gerapetritis arrived here on Wednesday.
Greece holds strategic importance for India within the IMEEC, as its location in Europe makes it a crucial gateway to the European market. Additionally, the country’s seaports, particularly Piraeus, can serve as major entry points for Indian goods heading to Europe.
This geographic advantage allows for faster and more efficient movement of goods compared to traditional sea routes, potentially reducing transportation costs and transit times. Sources said Greece could also play a key role in facilitating trade negotiations and agreements between India and the EU.
