In Rae Bareli, Rahul says ‘two Indias’ emerging under PM’s rule
Visiting his constituency for the fourth time since winning the Lok Sabha elections in June last year, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that his rule is creating “two Indias” — one for the wealthy and another for the poor.
Addressing a public rally in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, after unveiling a statue of Rana Beni Madhav Singh — a revolutionary from the Awadh region who played a key role in the 1857 uprising against British rule — Rahul highlighted unemployment and inflation as the country’s two biggest challenges.
“The biggest issue today is unemployment,” he said. “Only one out of 100 educated youth in the country believes they can get a job. The remaining 99 per cent say they have no job opportunities in Uttar Pradesh or elsewhere in India,” he added.
He further alleged that under Modi’s government, economic disparity is growing.
“Two Hindustans (Indias) are emerging. One is for the billionaires — about 25 people, including Adani and Ambani — who can get anything they want,” he claimed.
Rahul also accused the Modi government of favouring big industrialists, stating, “During the Covid-19 crisis, Rs 1 lakh crore in bank dues belonging to Adani and Ambani were waived. Their loans worth Rs 16 lakh crore have been written off.” The second India, he said, is that of farmers, labourers, and the unemployed.
“We don’t want this division. There should be only one Hindustan where everyone, regardless of wealth, has an equal right to dream big,” he said.
Rahul blamed PM Modi’s economic policies, including demonetisation and GST implementation, for worsening the situation.
“Small and medium businesses have been destroyed. This is not just Modi’s policy—it’s a partnership between him and Ambani,” he alleged.
Reaffirming his bond with his constituency, the Rae Bareli MP said his relationship with the people was “familial, not political”
“I will always be available whenever you need me,” he assured his supporters.
