India, Ecuador sign pact to boost diplomatic cooperation

India and Ecuador on Thursday took another step towards strengthening their bilateral ties, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between their diplomatic training institutions.

The agreement was signed during Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita’s meeting with Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign and Human Mobility Affairs Gabriela Sommerfeld.

According to the officials, the two leaders held wide-ranging discussions on ways to deepen collaboration across key sectors, including trade, pharmaceuticals, training and capacity building.

Margherita described the discussions as “fruitful”, noting that both sides reiterated their commitment to expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest and working together to advance political and economic engagement.

“Had a fruitful meeting with Gabriela Sommerfeld, Minister of Foreign and Human Mobility Affairs of Ecuador. Discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, including in political, trade, pharmaceuticals, training and capacity building and other areas of mutual priorities. Signed an MoU on cooperation between our diplomatic training institutions,” Margherita said.

Earlier, Margherita also met a number of ministers, vice ministers and senior officials from various Ecuadorian ministries, where talks focused on broadening cooperation in agriculture, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, education, culture, tourism, textiles, health and pharmaceuticals.

“India remains committed to working with Ecuador in the spirit of South-South cooperation,” the minister said, underlining New Delhi’s growing engagement with Latin American nations.

The visit marks a renewed push by India to strengthen partnerships with emerging economies in the Global South through technology sharing, training, and people-centric initiatives aimed at inclusive development.
