India gives list of 8 wanted: Headley, Goldy part of it
India has reiterated its demand for the extradition of David Coleman Headley, prime accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, from the US, which today announced the extradition of another 26/11 convict, Tahawwur Rana.
“We are giving a very violent man (Rana) back to India immediately. There are more to follow because we have quite a few requests,” US President Donald Trump said at a joint press briefing with PM Narendra Modi after their talks in Washington.
Headley, currently in a Chicago prison, is on the list of eight wanted persons whose extradition New Delhi sought from the US during PM Modi’s visit. Gangsters Anmol Bishnoi and Goldy Brar also figure in the list, sources said. Anmol is the brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and is an accused mastermind behind the murder conspiracy of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique.
Anmol was arrested in the US in November 2024 after the immigration authorities discovered he was travelling with fake documents.
Goldy Brar, designated a terrorist by the Centre under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, is the alleged mastermind behind the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
He is one of the prominent members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and is wanted by the Indian authorities for multiple serious offences, including murder, attempt to murder, and drug trafficking.
The US had earlier refused to extradite Headley, alias Daood Sayed Gilani, for his role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Of mixed Pakistani-American parentage, Headley had selected the locations for the Mumbai attacks. He later entered a plea bargain with the US Department of Justice which included a condition that he won’t be extradited.
The US, in 2016, had allowed Indian investigators to quiz Headley, who divulged that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) had given him Rs 25 lakh to procure a boat in which 10 terrorists sailed from Karachi to Mumbai in November 2008.
