India, Japan hold talks on trade, technology

India and Japan have held their maiden dialogue on economic security, including the strategic trade and technology, in Tokyo on Wednesday.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri co-chaired the dialogue with Masataka Okano, Vice-Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The dialogue was attended by multiple ministries, departments and agencies from both governments.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on economic security policies. The two sides were looking to strengthen partnership for building industrial and technological resilience and promote collaboration in research and application of key technologies.

“Both sides underscored the need for closer collaboration to protect economic interests and build resilient supply chains and critical infrastructure in identified sectors,” the MEA said.
