India, UK launch new ‘technology security initiative’

India and the UK, on Wednesday, announced a new ‘Technology Security Initiative’ (TSI) to focus on collaboration in critical and emerging technologies (CET) across multiple priority sectors, a statement of the Ministry of External Affairs said tonight.

India has similar critical technology partnership with the US. Like the India-US partnership, this too will be steered by the National Security Advisers (NSAs) of both countries.

The NSAs will set the priority areas and identify interdependencies for cooperation on critical and emerging technologies that will, in turn, help build meaningful technology value chain partnerships between the two countries. The announcement came after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his UK counterpart David Lammy here in New Delhi.

The MEA said UK and India would hold a dialogue on global technology governance. Among others will the ‘future telecoms partnership to collaborate on joint research on future telecoms, telecoms security, spectrum innovation, software etc.

The two sides will work together on 6G test beds for 6G R&D initiatives and work for integration of advanced technologies and practices in future telecoms infrastructure. Notably, the two sides will expand critical minerals collaboration, including exploring research and development and technology partnerships in exploration, processing and manufacturing.

The two sides mentioned partnership in semi-conductors, including collaboration in chip design and compound semiconductors.
