India, Vietnam deepen strategic partnership
India and Vietnam held discussions on strengthening cooperation in counter-terrorism, combating organised crime and information sharing between law enforcement agencies at the India-Vietnam Security Dialogue in Vietnam today.
The dialogue was co-chaired by India’s Deputy National Security Adviser Pavan Kapoor and Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Public Security Lt Gen Pham The Tung.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated, “Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration on the economic dimensions of security and emerging technologies, including cybercrime.” They also explored avenues for enhanced training and capacity-building cooperation, particularly in UN Peacekeeping operations.
Additionally, the two sides exchanged views on global and regional security issues and reviewed the implementation of the action plan under the India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During his visit, Kapoor met General Luong Tam Quang, Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security, and Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The bilateral security dialogue, held biennially under a 2016 MoU between India’s National Security Council Secretariat and Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security, will next convene in India.
