IndiGo Nagpur-Kolkata flight returns after bird strike, lands safely

The aircraft was immediately taken out of service for mandatory checks and maintenance, leading to the cancellation of the flight for the day

An IndiGo flight from Nagpur to Kolkata was forced to return shortly after take-off on Tuesday following a bird strike, officials confirmed.

The incident involved flight 6E812, which had departed from Nagpur in the morning. Soon after take-off, the pilots reported a bird strike and, as a precaution, decided to turn the aircraft back. The flight landed safely at Nagpur airport without further incident.

In a statement, IndiGo said the safety of passengers and crew was never compromised. “IndiGo flight 6E812 operating from Nagpur to Kolkata on 02 September 2025 encountered a bird strike soon after take-off. As a precautionary step, pilots decided to turn back and the flight landed safely at Nagpur airport,” the airline said.

The aircraft was immediately taken out of service for mandatory checks and maintenance, leading to the cancellation of the flight for the day.

IndiGo confirmed that passengers were assisted with alternate travel arrangements, refreshments, or provided a full refund if they opted for cancellation.

“The inconvenience caused due to this unforeseen situation is deeply regretted. Safety and security of our customers and crew remains our topmost priority,” a spokesperson added.
