The Congress on Monday accused the BJP government of playing the role of an “informer” and committing “treason,” alleging that terrorists such as Masood Azhar of Jaish-e-Mohammad and Hafiz Saeed of Lashkar-e-Taiba were “saved” due to prior information passed to Pakistan ahead of the May 7 attack.

Congress’ remarks were a response to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s recent comments, which they used to target the BJP. In a video shared by Rahul Gandhi, Jaishankar was heard saying that “at the start of the operation, they informed Pakistan they were targeting terrorist infrastructure, not military sites, and that Pakistan’s military had the option to stand aside but chose not to.”

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Press Information Bureau (PIB) later labeled this statement an “utter misrepresentation.”

Congress leader Pawan Khera questioned Jaishankar's remarks, asking, “What does it mean to inform terrorists before an attack? This isn’t diplomacy; it’s ‘mukhbiri’ (informing) and ‘gadari’ (treason).”

He further added that the information led to Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed escaping, with this being the second time Azhar had been spared.

Khera expressed concern over national security, saying, “We need to know why terrorists were allowed to escape. The Prime Minister and External Affairs Minister need to explain.”

He also criticised the BJP’s handling of security, citing the example of DRDO scientist Pradeep Koul, who is allegedly linked to the RSS. Khera questioned, “What connection do you have with Pakistan?” and accused the BJP of treason.
