Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury sparked a controversy on Monday by bringing her pet dog to Parliament, drawing sharp reactions from BJP members.

The incident occurred as the Winter Session began, amid ongoing Opposition protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Defending her actions, Chowdhury said, “The government doesn’t like animals. What’s the harm if a small, harmless animal comes inside? It is not aggressive,” adding that the dog posed no threat and was simply accompanying her.

When told: "Iska bi pass bana de, she replied, "haan , bana do".

BJP MP Jagdambika Pal criticised her, stating, “Renuka Chowdhury brought a dog into Parliament. Action should be taken against her. Having certain parliamentary privileges does not mean they can be misused.”

The Lok Sabha, already tense, was adjourned till noon following protests by Opposition members demanding a discussion on the SIR. Earlier, tributes were paid to five departed former members, and congratulations were extended to the women’s cricket team and other sports achievers.

Speaker Om Birla urged members to maintain decorum, emphasising the importance of discussion over disruption.

“In a democracy, it is natural to have differences, but these should be resolved through debate. This is not a place for sloganeering and showing placards,” he said, highlighting the significance of the Question Hour and active participation in debates.

Despite the Speaker’s appeal, Opposition protests continued, forcing another adjournment. The session mirrored disruptions in the previous sitting, with the SIR issue at the center of tensions.
