ISRO partners with NASA to send Group Capt to ISS
New Delhi, August 2
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday announced that an Indian astronaut would be sent to the International Space Station (ISS) in collaboration with the US space agency NASA.
Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who has been chosen for the assignment, will be the second Indian to go to space after Rakesh Sharma, if everything goes as planned.
The Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) of ISRO has entered into a Space Flight Agreement (SFA) with NASA-certified service provider M/s Axiom Space Inc., US, for its upcoming Axiom-4 mission to the ISS.
The National Mission Assignment Board has recommended two astronauts as the ‘prime’ and ‘backup’ mission pilot for the journey. Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair is the backup astronaut. — TNS
