Jagdeep Dhankhar attends Radhakrishnan’s swearing-in in first public appearance since resignation

CP Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India on Friday in a formal ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Cabinet ministers, and other dignitaries.

Radhakrishnan's immediate predecessor, Jagdeep Dhankhar, attended the event and was seated alongside former Vice Presidents M Venkaiah Naidu and Hamid Ansari.

The election followed the unexpected resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21, more than two years ahead of the end of his term, which was scheduled to conclude in August 2027.

While Dhankhar cited health reasons for stepping down, political observers and sources suggest underlying tensions and a possible breakdown of trust between him and the central government may have contributed to his early departure.

The ceremony was also attended by several prominent leaders, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Devendra Fadnavis, Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

Radhakrishnan, the NDA nominee, was elected Vice President on September 9 after securing 452 votes. He defeated Opposition candidate and former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes.
