“Spoke to Foreign Minister @sikorskiradek of Poland today. He shared his concern about recent developments pertaining to Poland’s security. I underlined that India favors an early end to hostilities and a durable solution for the Ukraine conflict,” Jaishankar posted on X late Thursday.

The call came amid heightened tensions in eastern Europe after repeated Russian drone incursions into Polish territory. According to Polish officials, their airspace has been violated 19 times by Russia-manufactured drones.

Sikorski, while addressing the issue earlier, said the drones were “deliberately targeted” and not accidental incursions. “Poland, EU and NATO will not be intimidated and we will continue to stand by the brave people of Ukraine. It’s time for the leadership of Russia to understand that the attempt to rebuild old spheres of influence will not succeed,” he said.

French President Emmanuel Macron also stepped in to reassure NATO allies of France’s commitment to European security.

Announcing additional deployments, Macron said, “Due to the incursion of Russian drones into Poland, I have decided to mobilize three Rafale fighter jets to support the protection of Polish airspace and Europe’s eastern flank together with our NATO allies. The security of the European continent is our highest priority. We will not give in to growing intimidation from Russia.”
